Recognizing Mental Health Week

From May 4-10, Canada observes Mental Health Week, led by the Canadian Mental Health Association (CMHA) under the powerful theme “Come Together, Canada: Stronger Connections. Better Mental Health.”

At Sunbeam Community & Developmental Services, we embrace this call wholeheartedly. For nearly 70 years, since our founding in 1956, we have supported individuals with developmental disabilities, intellectual challenges, and often co-occurring emotional or mental health needs.

Social connection is vital to well being—yet many people we support face barriers such as isolation, complex medical needs, or stigma. Across Sunbeam, we foster meaningful relationships; through recreation, skills building, family consultations, and trauma informed care, we help people build resilience and feel a sense of belonging in community.

This Mental Health Week, we invite everyone to spark small acts of connection: a kind word, an inclusive invitation, or simply listening without judgment. These moments reduce isolation and strengthen mental health for all, including those with developmental disabilities who deserve full belonging.

Join us in coming together. Visit sunbeamcommunity.ca to learn more about our services or how you can support. Together, we create stronger, healthier communities.
