August 23, 2023 – Minister Tour – Sunbeam Community & Developmental Services
On Wednesday, August 23, Sunbeam Community and Developmental Services welcomed The Honourable Michael Parsa, Ontario’s Minister of Children, Community and Social Services and Jess Dixon, P.C. MPP of Kitchener South-Hespeler, for a tour of our Kingsway Campus.
Minister Parsa and MPP Dixon had the opportunity to meet our clients and staff, members of our leadership and governance team, and others at the Sunbeam Community. It was a wonderful day for a tour. Sunbeam’s Chief Executive Officer, Brian Swainson, showcased Sunbeam’s newly upgraded, state-of-the-art specialized dental clinic and new seating and mobility clinic spaces. We also stopped by a Recreation and Wellness Program activity where some of our clients were gathered to participate in a ‘Pimp My Ride’ event where they were able to decorate their wheelchairs and other mobility aids ahead of Sunbeam’s Kid’s Day on Saturday, August 26th. Next, we finally headed to the gymnasium, where Sunbeam clients were participating in a Barbie-themed dance party after stopping by Sunbeam’s therapy pool.
Sunbeam Community & Developmental Services has been operating for more than 65 years, serving more than 14,000 individuals and families across Waterloo Region, Wellington County, Dufferin County, Peel Region, Halton Region, York Region and Simcoe County. Sunbeam relies on the support of its community and government partners to continue delivering and enhancing much-needed programs and services in the developmental services sector. We appreciate the opportunity to showcase some of the supports, services and programming available to individuals in our community.
Sunbeam creates inclusive communities where people of all abilities are valued. We are grateful for the visit with both Minister Parsa and MPP Dixon. Thank you for taking the time to learn more about the important work of the Sunbeam Community and the exceptional people we serve.
