Featured Group Home: St. Jacobs House

At Sunbeam, we offer a broad network of inclusive living group homes and overnight respite locations, each designed to provide the comfort of home and professional support for all clients’ needs.

Our holistic approach is needs-based, working closely with families to develop personalized support plans that reflect the preferences and goals of those we serve.

Our very first group home, St. Jacobs Home, remains a cornerstone of our welcoming community. We’re proud to have started this initiative and to see the community’s warm reception, as we continue to expand and develop innovative services to people with intellectual disabilities.

Meet Stanley!

Stanley has been living at Sunbeam since 2019. Before that, he lived in several other homes with different agencies, but never felt truly at home until he arrived at Sunbeam. Here, he finally has a place where he is well cared for and feels a deep sense of belonging.

Stanley’s support team provides a safe and caring environment where he feels comfortable being himself. He knows they accept him unconditionally, and he’s involved in making decisions about his life, which has encouraged him to become more independent.

An outdoor enthusiast and sports fanatic, Stanley enjoys activities like frisbee, trips to the park, and fishing at the conservation area, no matter the season. He’s also a proud member of two Special Olympics teams, playing both softball and bowling. Swimming, artwork, cycling, and walking are also part of his active lifestyle.

Stanley’s passion for cooking shines through as well. He often prepares his own meals with a little help and loves to contribute to cooking at community events, like Sunbeam’s BBQs.

One of Stanley’s favourite things is attending Sunbeam’s Recreation & Wellness Program events, especially the Community Passport and music festival programs. He stays active, fit, and fully involved in the vibrant life at Sunbeam.

This past summer, Stanley planted his vegetable garden and went off to his fifth cottage getaway at Papineau Lake!
