Meet Marcel!

Whenever you run into Marcel at Sunbeam, you’re greeted with his infectious smiling face and signature happy attitude. For 22 years, he’s brought that joy to our community—and we’re incredibly grateful he’s part of the Sunbeam family.

Marcel first joined us in June 2003 through respite services. Later that year, in 2004, he and his family chose a residential placement at Kingsdale. Since then, he’s called both Sims House and Kingsdale home, thriving in our supportive environments.

We recently sat down with Marcel to hear about his hobbies, interests, and reflections on his time with us. We’re always eager to listen, learn, and celebrate his story.

“Some of my favourite hobbies include gaming on my Nintendo Switch 2. I enjoy creating art and watching funny “Just for Laughs” videos on YouTube. I love playing Uno and math games with friends, and I really enjoy attending game night at the Sunbeam Gym. I like learning and trying new things, and I especially enjoy understanding how things work.

Fun fact about me: I enjoy playing pranks on staff by following them around and surprising them, which always leads to lots of laughter.

One of my most memorable recent moments was this past Christmas, when one of my closest friends surprised me with a brand-new Nintendo Switch 2. I was completely shocked and felt so much love.”
