Meet Ted Giesbrecht – Board Member

Ted is one of Sunbeam’s newest board members, joining the Board of Directors in 2025. With over four decades of legal expertise and a lifelong commitment to community service, Ted brings both professional wisdom and deep compassion to his role.

Raised on a farm near Kitchener, Ted’s early values of hard work, fairness, and family shaped a distinguished career in law. After founding GGFILAW as a sole practitioner, he grew the firm into a team of more than 20 lawyers over 42 years of practice.

Alongside his career, Ted has been a dedicated volunteer, serving with organizations such as Conrad Grebel University College, Habitat for Humanity, Oasis Outreach Ministries, Ray of Hope, Community Justice Initiatives, and Fairview and Parkwood Mennonite Homes. He also served as an adoption licensee and contributed to Canadian child welfare law. His passion for helping children has taken him around the globe, including Guatemala, Haiti, Ethiopia, South Africa, South Sudan, and Ukraine.

Since retiring from legal practice in 2023, Ted continues to pursue meaningful community service. In his free time, he enjoys mountain trekking, experimenting in the kitchen, and spending time with his four grandchildren.
