Access To A Support Person Is A Right
Under the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act, anyone with a disability has the right to be accompanied by a support person. No proof is required, no fees can be charged, and individuals with disabilities cannot be denied access because of their support person.
A support person may assist with communication, mobility, and other needs, yet far too often, they’re treated like guests instead of essential supports.
By having Sunbeam staff accompany individuals we support while in hospital, it provides a familiar, reassuring presence which makes a world of difference to improving the hospital stay experience.
Sunbeam’s Hospital Care Program ensures that every person we support has someone by their side who understands their complex needs and advocates for them during hospital stays.
