Ribbon Cutting – The Vos Family Multi-Sensory Space

On Friday, December 5th, Sunbeam officially opened the Vos Family Multi-Sensory Space also known as the Sunbeam Snoezelen Lounge.

A Snoezelen room is a specially designed therapeutic environment created to stimulate, relax, or calm the senses in a controlled and gentle way.

For reference, the word “Snoezelen” is a combination of two Dutch words:

  Snuffelen = to sniff, seek out, explore
  Doezelen = to doze, relax

The ribbon cutting ceremony was attended by members of Vos family, local dignitaries, people supported by Sunbeam and members of Sunbeam’s Board of Directors. Through the generosity of our community, and Pieter and Catherine Vos, this new space helps create environments where individuals can feel safe, soothed, and inspired every day.

“The space replaces the previous facility and boasts a more-than-double amount of physical space and improved accessibility,” said Sunbeam CEO, Brian Swainson. “The room will be available to clients of Sunbeam and open to families and individuals in the community to book this space.”

Natalie Pierre, Parliamentary Assistant to the Minister of Children, Community and Social Services and Jess Dixon, MPP for Kitchener South Hespeler were in attendance to bring greetings from the Province of Ontario.

“A Snoezelen Room is such an incredible resource, thanks to Vos family for their long-standing commitment to supporting Sunbeam and the community members here in Kitchener,” added Natalie Pierre.

Jess Dixon addressed the group, “Sunbeam has performed such an incredible role in our community, one that we can only hope to continue to build on.” Thanks for your support Jess!

Nicole Tailby, Community Outreach Supervisor, invited a few of the people we support. Monika, Melissa and Katie got their first peak at the space and were visibly impressed. We look forward to hosting them, and many others, again soon.
