Celebrating Black History Month
Every February, Sunbeam proudly embraces Black History Month. It’s a time to honour the profound contributions, resilience, and achievements of Black individuals throughout history and today.
Black history in Canada dates back over 400 years, from the arrival of interpreter Mathieu Da Costa in the early 1600s to the Underground Railroad freedom seekers who helped shape our inclusive society.
The 2026 theme, “30 Years of Black History Month: Honouring Black Brilliance Across Generations — From Nation Builders to Tomorrow’s Visionaries.“
For Canadian organizations, recognizing Black History Month fosters inclusion, strengthens team diversity, and promotes equity. By educating employees, supporting Black-led initiatives, and amplifying Black voices, organizations build stronger, more innovative workplaces that reflect Canada’s multicultural fabric. It’s an opportunity to combat systemic barriers and celebrate how Black Canadians enrich our economy, culture, and communities.
As we reflect this February, let us commit to learning, listening, and acting year-round. Black history is Canadian history—integral to who we are and who we aspire to be.
