Ministry of Children, Community and Social Services Approves $1.7M Capital Grant for Sunbeam’s New Specialized Inclusive Living Home
Sunbeam is set to open its newest inclusive living home in Spring 2025.
Located in Kitchener, Sunbeam’s newest inclusive living home will create new capacity in the local developmental services system to help address growing demand, while at the same time alleviating pressures on an already stressed healthcare system.
Capital grant funding is made possible through the Dual Diagnosis-Alternate Level of Care (DD-ALC) initiative, which helps to transition individuals living with a developmental disability who also have a mental health diagnosis, out of extended hospital stays into a permanent home with appropriately tailored supports.
“Sunbeam Community & Developmental Services has been a pillar of support for individuals with developmental disabilities in Kitchener, said Jess Dixon, MPP Kitchener South – Hespeler. “This project will make a real difference for individuals and families in our community by helping more people live with independence, while having the right supports in place to thrive.”
The group home will be located near Sunbeam’s main campus and will support up to five individuals.
“We are pleased to work with partners like Sunbeam to help build a more inclusive and barrier-free province,” said Michael Parsa, Minister of Children, Community and Social Services. “This project will help adults with developmental disabilities in Kitchener receive the right supports and services they need, so that they can live more independently in their communities.”
